Madelize Bekker

Managing Director & Founder

Madelize is a highly successful, intercultural team builder and a leader in the area of international education. She has more than 18 years of experience as a resource developer, co-author, teacher and facilitator. She has gained her expertise in working at early childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary level as well as in corporate environments in South Africa, New Zealand and China.

Her professional experience includes planning, designing and implementing digital and print-based learning solutions for local and international clients, coaching and facilitating in academic and corporate environments and facilitating workshops on curriculum design, instructional design and materials development.

As a business owner and entrepreneur, she has strong expertise in business and strategy development, relationship management between key stakeholders from a variety of professional and cultural backgrounds, as well as consultative educational services.

Since 2006, Madelize has been involved in the development of various niche educational products for Chinese customers, including multi-leveled pre-K to K products for industry leaders such as New Oriental, MaxEn, Baby Care, Xueersi (Mobby) and Best Learning. She also lived in China for two years and was a judge of competitions such as the ‘Star of Outlook’ English Talent Competition and also the ‘New Concept English Ability Competition’, she is well experienced in developing and evaluating student performance in a Chinese context.

She gained a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics through Victoria University of Wellington in 2009. Other qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (English, Psychology) from the University of the Free State in South Africa; a Cambridge Certificate in Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from Languages International in Auckland; a Certificate in Adult Teaching (CAT) from Wintec; and a Postgraduate Certificate in eEducation from The University of Waikato;

Jeremy Koay

Core team

Jeremy Koay is currently an Education Consultant at EduMaxi. He designs learning materials (print and online) and short professional development course for ESOL teachers. Before joining EduMaxi, he has tutored Academic Writing and Language Across the Curriculum, and taught on the English Proficiency Programme at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He has published research articles and book review articles in both New Zealand and international journals. He had seven years of experience teaching ESOL, English for Science and Technology, and Advanced Mathematics at secondary school level in Malaysia. He obtained his PhD in Applied Linguistics from Victoria University in 2015. His research interests include Discourse Analysis, Genre Analysis and TESOL.

James Jenkin

Core team

James has worked in the field of TESOL for over twenty years as a teacher, teacher trainer, curriculum designer and manager.

James originally worked for RMIT University, Melbourne, where he designed and delivered a range of ESP programs including English for Oil and Gas for PetroVietnam, and Aviation English for the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

James became a CELTA tutor in 1998, and has delivered CELTA courses in Australia, and customized programs for teachers from China, Thailand and Vietnam.

From 2001-10 James managed several university and private language centers in Australia and China, and led a number of major curriculum and assessment projects.

From 2011-15 James was Academic Director at i-to- i TEFL, the world’s largest teacher training organization. He was responsible for redeveloping i-to- i’s training programs, including the introduction of a specialist course for online teachers, and a Level 5 Ofqual-accredited course, the Pearson CertTEFL.

James is an IELTS examiner and has an MA in Applied Linguistics.

Dorothy Cleary

Independent Contractor

Dorothy Cleary has been involved in ESOL teaching, programme management and curriculum development for many years. For 12 years she was a Senior Academic Staff Member in the School of English Language at the Waikato Institute of Technology. She was responsible for test development, student placement, curriculum development, staff management and teaching on the EAP programme.

In 2008, she diversified into the areas of workplace English and resource development. During the past three years, she has been involved in writing, editing and academic management of a variety of international resource development projects for test preparation, tertiary, and Senior and Junior High School programmes for Cambridge ESOL, and for institutions in China and India. These projects have included paper based, blended delivery and on-line resources.

She gained a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics through Victoria University of Wellington in 2004.

Ann Read

Independent Contractor

Ann has 35 years of experience as an ESOL teacher working at all levels from absolute beginners to preparing foreign professionals for academic and occupational exams in both tertiary institutions and private language schools in New Zealand and abroad. She has planned and implemented a range of programmes including a TKT/Teacher Training course.

She was an IELTS examiner for 12 years and in recent years has worked as an instructional designer and writer of educational resources for several large schools and international organisations. She has contributed to IELTS preparation courses and practice tests for Cambridge ESOL and the British Council as well as resources for preparation and practice tests for the Occupational English Test (Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment). Most recently she has been involved in writing practice tests for TKT Modules 1-3, TKT KAL and TKT CLIL.

Konrad Read

Independent Contractor

Konrad has over 5 years of experience as an ELT resource developer. He has developed English language materials for a range of international projects, and specialises in online training courses and international exams, such as IELTS, OET, and TKT. He has also worked as an English language teacher at institutes on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane, Australia, and more recently as a senior teacher in Shenzhen, China. He has a Masters Degree from the University of Auckland and the Cambridge DELTA.

What Konrad really enjoys about his job is meeting people from around the world who are passionate about English language education, as well as the challenge of writing and developing top-quality materials on a range of interesting topics. A career highlight was helping to develop the official online OET exam training course for the Cambridge Boxhill Institute. It was an exciting international collaboration with writers in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and beyond.
